Real Madrid coach José Mourinho has urged young winger Yan Diomande to improve his finishing and decision-making in the final third, insisting that greater composure will be essential to fulfilling his potential.
Speaking after Real Madrid’s victory over Sevilla on Sunday, Mourinho praised the 19-year-old Ivory Coast international’s overall contribution but identified finishing as an area requiring significant improvement.
According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Portuguese tactician said he was pleased with Diomande’s progress but expected more from the young attacker.
“I am very happy with Diomande. He has a lot to work on, and he has many things he needs to improve. He needs to work on his finishing,” Mourinho said.
The coach added that Diomande’s ability to reach dangerous attacking positions was encouraging, but he needed to make better decisions when opportunities arose.
“He gets to a lot of dangerous positions, but he needs to learn to relax more and make a better decision in last touch,” Mourinho added.
Diomande, who reportedly joined Real Madrid from RB Leipzig in a high-value summer transfer, has impressed with his movement and ability to threaten opposition defences.
However, Mourinho believes that converting more of those opportunities into goals will be crucial to the winger’s development and his ability to make a lasting impact at the Spanish club.
The coach’s comments underline his confidence in Diomande’s potential while making clear that improved composure in front of goal remains a priority.
