Media entrepreneur and filmmaker Linda Ikeji is set to bring one of Nigeria’s most controversial real-life incidents to the big screen with her upcoming film, The Night of June 7th.
The movie, scheduled for release in cinemas nationwide on August 28, 2026, is inspired by the tragic Apo Six killings of 2005, when six young Nigerians were allegedly killed by security operatives in Abuja. The incident sparked nationwide outrage and remains a significant moment in Nigeria’s conversation about justice and human rights.
Written and produced by Linda Ikeji and directed by Toka McBaror, the film aims to revisit the events of that night through a compelling cinematic narrative while encouraging reflection on accountability and the value of human life.
The cast features some of Nollywood’s biggest names, including Gideon Okeke, Femi Branch, Ali Nuhu, Charles Lenny, and other notable actors.
Speaking about the project, Ikeji described The Night of June 7th as more than just a film, saying it is a tribute to the victims and a reminder of the importance of justice and truth. The production also marks Linda Ikeji Media’s return to cinemas following the release of Dark October, another film based on a real-life Nigerian tragedy.
The Night of June 7th is expected to premiere in cinemas across Nigeria on August 28, adding another socially conscious title to Nollywood’s growing catalogue of films inspired by true events.
