China has warned it will take firm retaliatory measures if the United States proceeds with restrictions on imports of new Chines made robots and power inverters, accusing Washington of unfairly targeting Chinese companies under the guise of national security.
China’s Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday that Beijing would “resolutely retaliate” and safeguard its legitimate interests if the United States continued to act unilaterally.
The ministry urged Washington to immediately withdraw the restrictions, describing them as discriminatory measures aimed at suppressing Chinese products and businesses.
The comments followed the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) decision on Tuesday to prohibit imports of new Chinese humanoid and quadruped robots, along with connected power inverters, citing concerns over national security and the need to strengthen domestic supply chains supporting artificial intelligence development.
Beijing said the FCC had ignored repeated Chinese objections and continued expanding restrictive measures against Chinese technology firms.
The Commerce Ministry accused the United States of broadly interpreting national security to justify trade restrictions, calling the measures “market distortion and unilateral bullying behaviour” that undermined the interests of both Chinese and American industries.
The latest dispute adds to growing technology tensions between the world’s two largest economies, as Washington seeks to reduce reliance on Chinese technology in sectors it considers strategically important, including artificial intelligence, robotics and energy infrastructure.
Chinese officials have repeatedly criticised such restrictions, arguing they violate principles of fair competition and disrupt global supply chains.
