A minor earthquake shook parts of the Scottish Highlands overnight, waking residents in several communities but causing no reports of significant damage or injuries.
The earthquake measured 2.5 magnitude, with its epicentre believed to be near Spean Bridge, according to monitoring authorities. Tremors were also felt in Roybridge, Inverlair, Fort William, and surrounding villages, where residents reported being awakened by brief shaking.
People described feeling a sudden jolt and hearing rumbling noises as the quake passed through the area shortly after midnight. Emergency services said they had received reports from concerned residents but confirmed there were no immediate indications of structural damage.
Earthquakes of this magnitude are relatively uncommon but not unusual in the United Kingdom. The British Geological Survey (BGS) records several minor seismic events across the UK each year, most of which are too weak to cause damage.
Officials said the earthquake posed no ongoing risk, although residents were advised to report any unusual structural issues if they noticed them.
