SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won has agreed to sell a 1.34% stake in SK Inc., the South Korean conglomerate’s holding company, to an investment fund linked to Dell Technologies founder Michael Dell for 544 billion won, approximately $406 million.
The transaction was disclosed in a regulatory filing on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. The buyer, DFO Public Investments, is affiliated with DFO Management, the investment office managing assets for Michael Dell and his family.
The sale forms part of Chey’s broader plan to raise 944 billion won through share disposals to meet a divorce settlement with his former wife. Earlier in October, he agreed to sell approximately 2.26% of SK Inc., with another portion of the shares earmarked for Korea Investment & Securities.
The investment also brings renewed attention to the business relationship between Dell and SK Group. Dell Technologies supplies artificial intelligence servers and data-centre infrastructure, while SK Hynix, a subsidiary of the South Korean group, manufactures memory chips used in advanced computing systems.
As demand for AI infrastructure grows, securing reliable supplies of advanced memory chips has become increasingly important for technology companies. The investment could strengthen financial ties between parties operating within the same AI supply chain, although the purchase is being made by a family investment fund rather than Dell Technologies itself.
