Fifty internally displaced youths in Abuja have completed a digital skills training programme aimed at equipping them with relevant technology knowledge and improving their chances of accessing employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
The programme, which focused on building digital capacity among young people affected by displacement, provided participants with practical skills designed to help them participate in the growing digital economy.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony in Abuja, organisers said the initiative was part of efforts to promote inclusion by ensuring that vulnerable groups, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), have access to skills that can improve their livelihoods. The beneficiaries received training in areas such as digital literacy, online communication, content creation, basic technology tools, entrepreneurship and other relevant digital skills needed in today’s job market.
According to the organisers, the programme was designed not only to introduce participants to technology but also to build their confidence and encourage them to explore opportunities in remote work, digital services and small-scale businesses. A representative of the organisers said empowering displaced youths with digital skills would help reduce economic vulnerability and enable them to become more self-reliant.
“Digital skills have become essential for accessing opportunities in today’s economy. By providing this training, we are helping these young people develop abilities that can support their personal growth and financial independence,” the representative said.
One of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the opportunity, noting that the training had improved their understanding of digital tools and opened new possibilities for career development. The graduate said the skills acquired would be applied to create income opportunities and support other members of the community.
Stakeholders at the event commended the initiative, stressing the need for more programmes that combine education, skills development and livelihood support for displaced communities.
They noted that young people affected by displacement often face barriers to employment and economic participation, adding that targeted interventions could help them rebuild their lives and contribute positively to society.
The organisers encouraged the graduates to continue improving their skills and take advantage of available digital platforms to expand their knowledge and professional networks.
They also called for stronger partnerships among government agencies, private organisations and development partners to increase access to digital training for vulnerable youths across the country.
The completion of the programme marks a step towards strengthening digital inclusion and creating more opportunities for internally displaced youths to participate in Nigeria’s evolving technology-driven economy.
