The Vice-Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University has urged professors and other academics to resist political pressure and uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process as preparations for the 2027 general elections gradually gather momentum.
Speaking on the role of academics in national development and democratic governance, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized the need for professors involved in election duties to remain impartial, professional, and committed to the principles of fairness and transparency. He stressed that the credibility of elections depends largely on the integrity of those entrusted with key responsibilities.
The university administrator cautioned against allowing personal interests, financial inducements, or political affiliations to influence decisions during the electoral process. According to him, academics have a moral and professional obligation to protect the sanctity of elections and safeguard the confidence of Nigerians in the democratic system.
He further called on institutions of higher learning to continue promoting ethical leadership, civic responsibility, and democratic values among students and staff, noting that universities play a crucial role in strengthening good governance and nation-building.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed optimism that with integrity, accountability, and strict adherence to electoral guidelines, Nigeria can conduct free, fair, and credible elections in 2027. He urged all stakeholders—including political parties, electoral officials, security agencies, and the electorate—to work together in preserving the country’s democratic institutions and ensuring peaceful polls.
