Political parties participating in the upcoming Osun State governorship election have signed a peace accord, pledging to ensure a peaceful, credible and violence free electoral process.

The agreement was signed by representatives of the participating parties as part of efforts to promote political tolerance and prevent conflicts before, during and after the election.

Stakeholders at the ceremony called on political actors, supporters and residents of the state to prioritise peace and allow citizens to freely exercise their democratic rights without intimidation or violence.

The peace pact is expected to guide the conduct of candidates and party supporters throughout the campaign period and election activities. Parties involved committed to respecting electoral rules, accepting the outcome of the process and resolving disputes through lawful channels.

Electoral officials and other stakeholders stressed that peaceful elections remain essential to strengthening democracy and building public confidence in the electoral system.

The initiative comes amid increased political activities in Osun State as parties intensify preparations and mobilise support ahead of the governorship contest.

Observers noted that the commitment by political parties would be tested through their actions on the campaign trail, urging candidates to focus on issues, policies and development plans rather than personal attacks.

The peace accord is part of broader efforts by election stakeholders to ensure that the Osun governorship election is conducted in an atmosphere of peace, fairness and transparency.
