JD Vance Accuses Some Israeli Officials of Seeking to Prolong Iran Conflict

U.S. Vice President JD Vance has accused some members of the Israeli government of attempting to influence American public opinion in an effort to undermine a U.S. brokered agreement with Iran and prolong the conflict between the two countries.

Vance made the remarks during an interview on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, where he defended the Trump administration’s efforts to negotiate an agreement that ended an earlier phase of the fighting. He alleged that some Israeli officials wanted military operations against Iran to continue indefinitely and had sought to shift U.S. policy away from diplomacy.

Vance said it was common for both allies and adversaries to try to influence U.S. policy, but argued that such efforts become problematic when they affect American decision making. He stressed that his concern was not with lobbying itself but with attempts that could alter U.S. strategic judgment.

The comments highlight an increasingly public disagreement between Washington and some Israeli leaders over the administration’s approach to Iran. Critics in both the United States and Israel have argued that the agreement does not sufficiently address Iran’s ballistic missile programme or provide a clear path to dismantling its nuclear facilities.

Israeli officials, speaking anonymously, said they believe the agreement weakens Israel’s security by limiting its military options against Iranian backed groups, including Hezbollah in Lebanon. The Israeli government has not issued an official public response to Vance’s latest remarks.

The latest exchange underscores continuing differences between close allies over how to manage Iran’s regional influence, even as both countries maintain close security and defence cooperation.
