The Kogi State Government has confirmed the rescue of four individuals abducted during a recent attack on an examination centre in Olowa, Dekina Local Government Area.

The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, attributing the successful operation to a coordinated security response initiated by Governor Ahmed Ododo shortly after the incident.

According to him, the governor directed the State Security Adviser, Jerry Omodara, to lead a joint operation involving the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilante groups.

Gunmen had earlier attacked Government Secondary School, Olowa, abducting students, the school principal and a National Examinations Council (NECO) official during the incident.

Fanwo explained that security personnel launched an intensive operation in the surrounding forest, applying sustained pressure on the kidnappers.

He said the presence of heavily armed operatives forced the assailants to abandon their captives and flee, leading to the safe recovery of the victims.

The rescued individuals, including the principal, the NECO official and two students, are currently undergoing medical evaluation and security debriefing, with authorities confirming they are in stable condition.

The commissioner noted that security operatives remain in the area as efforts continue to track down the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to justice.

He commended the Nigerian Army, DSS, police and local security outfits for their swift and professional response, describing the operation as a strong example of effective inter-agency collaboration.

Fanwo also acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the federal government provided necessary backing to facilitate the rescue mission.

He assured residents that the state government remains committed to strengthening security through continued investment in intelligence gathering, logistics and coordinated operations to combat criminal activities.
