The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspected serial burglar, identified as Nasiru Abiodun, over alleged break-ins at four residential apartments in Ibadan, with stolen property valued at N16.22m reportedly recovered.
The suspect was arrested on Saturday at about 9.45am in a residential apartment in the Ejiooku/Iyana Offa area of Ibadan following investigations into a series of house burglaries in the state capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to her, the arrest followed a complaint lodged by residents of Oyewole Zone 2, Ile-Igbon, which prompted operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit to launch an operation.
Olayinka explained that the suspect was apprehended with a sack containing house cables and other valuables estimated to be worth N3m.
She said preliminary interrogation revealed that Abiodun allegedly confessed to breaking into four different residential apartments within the area and stealing various household items.
The police spokesperson stated that the stolen property included house cables, mobile phones, motorcycle batteries and other household valuables.
According to the police statement, the total value of items allegedly stolen during the four incidents was estimated at N16.22m.
The command added that some of the stolen property had already been recovered from the suspect following his arrest.
Following the development, police operatives reportedly visited the affected residences to establish the circumstances surrounding the burglaries and gather additional information that could assist the investigation.
The police also disclosed that efforts were ongoing to recover the remaining stolen items and identify individuals suspected of receiving the stolen property.
The command urged residents of Ejiooku, Iyana Offa, Ile-Igbon and neighbouring communities whose homes had recently been burgled to report their experiences to the nearest police station.
Residents were also advised to contact the Maku Base of the Violent Crime Response Unit with relevant information that could assist investigators.
The police said information provided by affected residents would help establish whether other burglary incidents were connected to the suspect and facilitate the recovery of additional stolen property.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Olugbenga, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities through intelligence-led policing and cooperation with members of the public.
Olugbenga urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies to help prevent and detect criminal activities across the state.
He stressed the importance of community participation in addressing security challenges, noting that timely information from residents could assist police operations.
The latest arrest comes weeks after the command apprehended three suspected armed robbers following a robbery incident around Sumal Junction Roundabout in Ibadan.
The suspects were identified as Sunday Obasola, 29, Kayode Bamikole, 28, and Durodoye Ayobami, 23.
They were arrested on Thursday, October 8, 2026, following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer of Oluyole Division.
The police said a patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene, where officers confronted the suspects and arrested three of them.
A locally made pistol, a live cartridge and a motorcycle were recovered during the operation.
The command reiterated its determination to sustain security operations and urged residents to report suspicious activities promptly.
