Suspected bandits have killed a 47-year-old security guard, identified as Hassan Boder, and abducted a married woman during two successive attacks on Ribah community in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The attacks occurred on Friday, October 30, 2026, despite efforts by joint security operatives to prevent the gunmen from gaining access to the community.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, who said the attackers initially attempted to block Rambo Junction along the Ribah-Dirin Daji Road at about 7.25pm.
According to Usman, security personnel comprising police officers, military personnel and local vigilante groups swiftly confronted the attackers and forced them to retreat.
However, the suspected bandits reportedly regrouped and returned to the community, opening fire sporadically from different directions.
During the ensuing exchange of gunfire, Boder, who worked as a security guard at a newly constructed filling station along the Ribah-Kanya Road, was fatally hit by a bullet.
The police spokesperson disclosed that security operatives mobilised immediately after receiving a distress call and successfully repelled the attackers.
He said the command had intensified security operations in the area, with aggressive patrols ongoing to prevent further attacks and track down those responsible.
According to community reports, the attackers arrived on more than 10 motorcycles and abducted a married woman during the incident.
The police command said efforts were underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
