Argentum AI, a cloud computing company backed by Super Micro Computer, is in talks to secure $5 billion in financing for artificial intelligence chips as it seeks to expand its computing infrastructure.

According to people familiar with the discussions, the proposed financing would come from a major private credit firm. The funds would help Argentum acquire additional chips for a data centre project in Poland.

The company plans to lease the chips to customers, including businesses that do not have investment-grade credit ratings. This arrangement would allow Argentum to expand its AI computing services while providing customers with access to high-performance computing infrastructure.

One source said Argentum has secured more than $12 billion in contracted revenue, highlighting the scale of its planned operations. However, the financing discussions are ongoing, and the terms of a potential deal have not been disclosed.

Argentum’s fundraising effort comes as financing conditions tighten for neocloud companies, which rent computing power and graphics processing units (GPUs) to businesses developing and operating AI systems.

The sector has attracted significant investment as demand for AI computing capacity grows. However, lenders are increasingly assessing the creditworthiness of customers, the reliability of future revenue and the risks associated with expensive infrastructure.

The proposed deal follows major financing arrangements elsewhere in the industry. SpaceX recently secured $40 billion in chip-related debt financing, while AI cloud provider Nebius obtained a $3.5 billion financing facility from Citi to support data centre development and GPU purchases.

Founded in 2025, Chicago-based Argentum AI is led by founder and CEO Andrew Sobko. In May, the company announced a roughly $2.5 billion agreement with cloud gaming provider Boosteroid and real estate group DL Invest Group for a 300-megawatt data centre project in Poland.

If completed, the proposed $5 billion financing would provide Argentum with additional resources to expand its computing capacity as competition for AI infrastructure intensifies.
