Manchester City have been handed an injury concern ahead of their Premier League clash with Liverpool after striker Erling Haaland limped off during Norway’s 2-1 Nations League defeat to Portugal.
Haaland signalled towards the bench before being substituted in the 67th minute, with Jørgen Strand Larsen replacing him. The extent of the injury is yet to be established.
The setback comes at a crucial time for Manchester City, who travel to Liverpool on Sunday for a highly anticipated Premier League encounter.
Haaland has scored seven goals so far this season and remains a key figure in City’s attack. His potential absence would therefore represent a significant blow to the club ahead of the difficult fixture.
Before leaving the pitch, Haaland had gone close to scoring for Norway but dragged an effort wide as his side suffered their third consecutive Nations League defeat.
Norway took the lead in the 36th minute through Brentford defender Kristoffer Ajer, who controlled Martin Ødegaard’s cross before unleashing a superb half-volley into the top corner.
Portugal responded two minutes later when João Cancelo fired home from the edge of the penalty area.
Gonçalo Ramos completed Portugal’s comeback with 11 minutes remaining, finishing from close range after a lay-off from João Félix.
Portugal secured their place in the Nations League quarter-finals, while Norway remain bottom of the group with two matches remaining.
Manchester City will now await further medical assessment on Haaland before determining whether the Norwegian forward will be fit to face Liverpool.
