The Anambra State Government has urged voters, particularly supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, to reject Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, in the 2027 general election.
The state government made the call on Monday through a post on its official X account, managed by the New Media Office of Governor Charles Soludo.
The government accused Obi, a former governor of Anambra and former APGA member, of working against the party since leaving it in 2014. It described his political activities as a betrayal of the party that produced him as governor.
The government urged APGA supporters to defend the party and resist the NDC, warning that voting for Obi would amount to weakening APGA.
The statement also claimed that President Bola Tinubu had supported APGA, contrasting his relationship with the party with Obi’s political decisions after leaving office.
Obi governed Anambra on the APGA platform before leaving the party for the Peoples Democratic Party in 2014. He later contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party before subsequently moving to the NDC.
The latest development comes amid an ongoing political disagreement between Obi and the Soludo administration, including disputes over financial obligations allegedly inherited from previous administrations.
Obi has rejected the allegations concerning debts, insisting that he left office without outstanding salaries, pensions or contractor debts.
As of the time of the report, Obi and his team had not publicly responded to the latest accusation from the Anambra State Government.
