Borno State Governor and Chairman of the North-East Governors’ Forum (NEGF), Babagana Zulum, has urged member states to fulfil their financial commitments towards the proposed North-East Air Shuttle.
Zulum made the call while delivering his opening address at the 13th meeting of the NEGF in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The proposed regional air shuttle is intended to improve connectivity across the six North-East states, making the movement of people and goods faster and easier while supporting trade, investment and economic integration.
Zulum said significant progress had been made towards financing the initiative, urging all member states to redeem their outstanding commitments so the project can commence.
Reports on the funding gave different figures for the amount already secured, with Premium Times reporting ₦10.8 billion in counterpart contributions, while TheCable reported ₦15.8 billion had been secured.
The governor stressed that improved transportation networks were critical to addressing the region’s infrastructure and economic challenges.
He also urged the governors to strengthen collaboration and ensure that resolutions reached through the forum translate into tangible benefits for residents.
The NEGF comprises Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe states.
