A prominent Islamic scholar and leader of the Qadiriyya order, Sheikh Qaribullahi Nasiru-Kabara, has urged political and religious leaders to avoid reckless statements that could inflame tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The cleric made the call in Kano during the annual Qadiriyya Maukibi, which brought together Islamic scholars, political figures and thousands of followers of the order.

He stressed the need for responsible public communication as political activities intensify, warning that inflammatory remarks from influential figures could create unnecessary tension and undermine peaceful coexistence.

The gathering came amid increasing political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, with political leaders engaging religious and community figures across northern Nigeria.

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf also attended the event and called for continued support for President Bola Tinubu and his administration. The gathering further featured senior political figures and representatives of the ruling party.

The Qadiriyya Maukibi has traditionally attracted religious and political leaders from across the country, making its message particularly significant as preparations for the next general election gather pace.
