The North East Governors’ Forum has urged President Bola Tinubu to revive stalled oil exploration activities in Magumeri and Gubio Local Government Areas of Borno State.
The call was made at the forum’s 13th regular meeting in Maiduguri, chaired by Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum. The meeting focused on regional development, security, economic integration and infrastructure.
The governors welcomed renewed federal efforts to revive exploration at the Kolmani oil field in Bauchi State, describing the project as an opportunity to create jobs, stimulate infrastructure development and expand the revenue base of states and host communities.
Zulum said the same momentum should be extended to Borno’s prospective oil fields, particularly areas where exploration had previously commenced before being halted.
The forum said responsible development of the region’s natural resources could support reconstruction, strengthen local economies and create sustainable opportunities for communities affected by years of insecurity.
The governors also linked oil exploration to the broader economic recovery of the North East, where efforts are being made to attract investment, improve infrastructure and create employment for the region’s growing population.
The call comes alongside other regional initiatives discussed at the meeting, including energy development, transportation, education, youth empowerment and improved economic integration.
