The Federal Government has called for stronger cooperation among African countries to end the long standing exploitation of the continent’s critical mineral resources and promote local processing.

The government made the call while urging African nations to move away from exporting minerals in their raw form and instead develop the capacity to process them within the continent.

It said Africa’s vast mineral wealth should contribute more directly to economic growth, industrialisation, job creation and improved living standards for its people.

The Federal Government stressed the need for African countries to work together in developing policies, infrastructure and investments that would support value addition and ensure that greater benefits from the continent’s natural resources remain within Africa.

It also called for stronger partnerships among governments, investors and other stakeholders to build sustainable mineral value chains and reduce the continent’s dependence on the export of unprocessed resources.

The government maintained that a coordinated continental approach would help Africa maximise its mineral potential and strengthen its position in the global critical minerals market.
