Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa, the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Zamfara State, has vowed to tackle banditry and insecurity in the state within his first term if elected governor in the 2027 general elections.
Marafa said the security challenges confronting Zamfara could be addressed within a relatively short period if the government gives the issue adequate attention, seriousness and the necessary political will.
The former lawmaker said he would take the fight directly to bandits and work towards dismantling their operations across the state. He also criticised what he described as inadequate attention given to insecurity by relevant authorities.
“I will either end banditry in my first tenure in office or resign,” Marafa said.
He further stated that, if elected, he would aim to end insecurity in Zamfara within two years or vacate office. He said his previous experience as a commissioner in the state and as a senator had given him an understanding of the challenges facing Zamfara and Nigeria.
Beyond security, Marafa promised to focus on critical sectors of the state’s economy, particularly programmes affecting women, children and youths. He also appealed to residents to support his candidacy and other NDC candidates in the 2027 elections.
His pledge to eliminate banditry is a campaign commitment by the candidate and not an independently verified projection of what can be achieved.
