Pakistan carried out airstrikes in eastern Afghanistan on Monday, with Afghan authorities reporting that at least three civilians were killed and four others injured in Kunar province. The strikes also targeted locations in Paktika province.
Pakistan said its forces killed 28 militants in the operations, targeting camps and hideouts linked to groups accused of carrying out attacks inside Pakistan. The claim could not be independently verified.
The strikes followed a deadly attack on a police facility in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and came after months of rising tensions between Islamabad and Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government.
Afghanistan condemned the strikes as aggression and warned that it would respond. Pakistan has repeatedly accused Kabul of allowing militants, including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), to operate from Afghan territory, while the Taliban government denies the allegation.
