The November 6 to 17 tour will see the pontiff travel roughly 31,000 kilometres and deliver 36 speeches, making it one of the busiest foreign trips by a Catholic pope in decades.
The journey will begin in Uruguay before moving to Argentina, where Pope Leo will visit a federal prison complex in Buenos Aires and celebrate Mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lujan. The visit will mark the first papal trip to Argentina since John Paul II visited in the 1980s.
The pope will then spend several days in Peru, where he previously served as a missionary, priest and bishop. He is scheduled to visit Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco and Pucallpa, with engagements involving Indigenous communities and Catholic leaders.
Pope Leo, who was born in Chicago and also holds Peruvian citizenship, is expected to address challenges facing the region while reconnecting with communities where he spent decades in ministry.
The South American journey will be his fifth international trip of 2026.
