The lawyer representing Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has revealed that Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun stood surety to facilitate Igboho’s temporary return to Nigeria for his mother’s burial.
According to the lawyer, the arrangement was necessary to ensure Igboho’s safe passage and compliance with legal conditions, given his ongoing issues with Nigerian authorities. The governor’s involvement reportedly provided assurances that Igboho would not breach the terms of his return.
Igboho, who has been in exile following clashes with security agencies, was granted permission to attend his mother’s burial rites in his hometown. His lawyer emphasized that the move was humanitarian, allowing him to honor cultural obligations while still respecting legal boundaries.
Community members welcomed his return, describing it as a moment of healing for the family and supporters. However, analysts note that the development underscores the delicate balance between political considerations and legal restrictions surrounding Igboho’s case.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the governor’s role, but observers believe the surety arrangement reflects ongoing negotiations between state actors and agitators to ease tensions in the southwest.
