Six Killed, Two Injured in Kogi Road Crash

A fatal road accident in Kogi State has claimed six lives and left two others critically injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the crash occurred along the Lokoja–Okene highway when a commercial vehicle collided with a truck in the early hours of Sunday. The impact was severe, instantly killing several passengers, while others sustained life-threatening injuries.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident, stating that reckless driving and possible brake failure may have contributed to the crash. The injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the corpses of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue.

Residents in the area described the accident scene as horrific, with mangled vehicles and scattered belongings. Community leaders have called on authorities to intensify road safety campaigns and enforce stricter regulations to curb the rising spate of accidents in Kogi.

Analysts note that the Lokoja–Okene highway has become notorious for fatal crashes due to poor road conditions, speeding, and heavy traffic. They warn that without urgent intervention, more lives could be lost.

The FRSC has urged motorists to exercise caution, maintain their vehicles properly, and avoid reckless driving. They emphasized that road safety remains a collective responsibility.
