Charles Spencer, the brother of the late Princess Diana, has maintained his claim that King Charles made a controversial remark about Diana shortly after her death in 1997.

In an interview with the BBC, Spencer said he was “telling the truth” about the alleged phone conversation, which he described as deeply shocking.

According to Spencer, the conversation happened during a dispute over arrangements for Diana’s funeral, particularly whether her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, should walk behind their mother’s coffin.

Spencer claims the then Prince Charles became angry during the call before allegedly telling him, “We’ll forget her soon enough.” He said he was stunned by the remark and ended the conversation.

Spencer said he told family and friends about the alleged comment at the time because he considered it “monstrous.”

Buckingham Palace has pushed back against the account, saying grief can affect a person’s memory and judgment many years after a loss. Spencer, however, rejected the suggestion that he misremembered the conversation, insisting that he was “hyper alert” to what Charles said.

His claims appear in his forthcoming memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, which is due to be published on September 22, 2026.
