Chibuike Nwaiwu has revealed that hard work, strict adherence to coach Thomas Reis’ instructions and a determined mindset were key to Trabzonspor’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Galatasaray in the Turkish Süper Lig.

Trabzonspor produced a dominant performance at Papara Park on Saturday, September 19, defeating the defending champions 4-0 and handing Galatasaray their first defeat of the 2026/27 league campaign.

Nwaiwu, who started at centre-back and played the entire match, said the team had endured a difficult week but remained focused on preparing for the challenging encounter.

According to the Nigerian defender, the arrival of new manager Thomas Reis also helped the team develop a different rhythm and approach ahead of the match.

He explained that the players were instructed at half-time not to become complacent despite holding a commanding 3-0 lead. They were urged to maintain their concentration and continue pressing for more goals because they were facing a strong Galatasaray side.

Trabzonspor took the lead through Salah in the fourth minute before Noah Saviolo doubled the advantage in the 39th minute. Salah added another before half-time to give the hosts a 3-0 advantage.

The Egyptian forward completed his hat-trick in the 80th minute, sealing the 4-0 victory for Trabzonspor.

Nwaiwu also praised Reis, who was appointed shortly before the match, describing him as a very good coach and expressing hope that he would become an important part of the team.

The defender dedicated the victory to Trabzonspor supporters who continued to encourage the team throughout the match.

He stressed that the players must not become satisfied with the result, but should continue working hard and build on the performance in their subsequent matches.

The victory moved Trabzonspor to 10 points, while Galatasaray remained on 13 points after six league matches.
