The Anambra State Government has released records it says show outstanding debts and financial obligations allegedly linked to the administration of former Governor Peter Obi.
The disclosure has sparked renewed debate over the state’s financial position during and after Obi’s tenure as governor.
According to the state government, some financial obligations incurred during the period remain outstanding and have continued to affect the state’s finances.
The government also raised questions about other alleged liabilities inherited by subsequent administrations, including obligations involving workers, contractors and suppliers.
However, Obi has previously maintained that his administration left Anambra State in a strong financial position and settled its obligations before handing over power.
The latest development is expected to fuel further discussion over the financial records of Obi’s administration and the liabilities inherited by successive governments in the state.
