At least 347 residents have been displaced in parts of Cross River State following flooding and mudslides that damaged homes and disrupted communities.
The incidents affected several communities after heavy rainfall triggered flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas, forcing residents from their homes and leaving some families in need of temporary shelter and other forms of assistance.
The affected residents are among communities facing increased exposure to flooding during the rainy season, particularly in areas where drainage systems are inadequate or where settlements are located close to waterways and steep terrain.
The flooding has also raised concerns over damage to roads, farmlands, household property and other infrastructure, with residents potentially facing further hardship if rainfall continues.
Emergency responders and relevant authorities are expected to assess the extent of the damage and coordinate relief efforts for affected households.
The latest incident adds to a series of weather-related emergencies recorded across different parts of Nigeria as heavy rainfall continues to threaten communities, particularly those in flood-prone locations.
Authorities have repeatedly urged residents living in vulnerable areas to take flood warnings seriously, avoid crossing fast-moving floodwater and move to safer locations when necessary.
The displacement of hundreds of residents also highlights the need for stronger flood-prevention measures, improved drainage infrastructure, early-warning systems and better emergency preparedness at the community level.
For affected families, immediate priorities include temporary shelter, food, clean water, healthcare and assistance to recover damaged homes and livelihoods.
