Dutch payments company Adyen plans to expand its operations and increase hiring in India, betting on the country’s rapidly growing digital payments market and rising cross border commerce, a senior executive told Reuters.
Asia Pacific President Gary Yang said India was a long term growth market as multinational companies expand there and Indian businesses increasingly operate overseas.
Adyen’s Indian workforce has grown tenfold since 2023 to 120 employees in the first half of 2026. Its pre tax income from India more than doubled to €3.18 million ($3.5 million) in 2025.
The company received payment aggregator and cross border licences in India in 2024 and has adapted its platform to local regulations, including data localisation requirements and UPI payments.
Adyen works with major companies including Uber, Microsoft and Adobe, while helping Indian businesses such as travel platform Oyo expand internationally.
The company also sees opportunities in AI powered commerce, where software agents could search for products and make purchases on behalf of consumers.
