The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has promised decisive action against terrorism, insecurity and illegal mining if elected president in 2027.

Adebayo made the pledge during the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Personality Interview Series in Abuja on Sunday, saying his administration would reclaim territories controlled by terrorists and dismantle the economic networks sustaining criminal activities.

He said insecurity was concentrated in identifiable areas and argued that government had sufficient knowledge of locations where terrorists and other criminal groups operate.

Adebayo also alleged that collusion between some government officials and criminal elements had contributed to the persistence of insecurity, while questioning the impact of rising defence spending on the welfare of security personnel.

He linked insecurity to illegal mining, particularly in areas rich in gold, tantalite and lithium, alleging that criminal networks exploit insecurity to facilitate the illegal extraction of mineral resources.

The SDP candidate said tackling insecurity would require more than military operations, stressing the need to address the economic interests benefiting from criminal activities.

Adebayo promised to strengthen cooperation between government, communities and security agencies to confront terrorists and other criminal networks.

He also identified agriculture and food production as key components of national security, saying restoring peace to farming communities would improve food supply, economic activity and employment.

The presidential candidate said effective leadership must combine military action, policing, economic development and accountability to address Nigeria’s security challenges.
