US targets Turkish entities with new Iran related sanctions

The U.S. Treasury Department on Friday imposed new Iran related sanctions on three Turkey based entities, according to the department’s website.

The targeted companies are Golden Global Portfoy Yonetimi Anonim Sirketi, Golden Global Varlik Kiralama Anonim Sirketi and Golden Global Yatirim Bankasi Anonim Sirketi.

Treasury also issued a general licence allowing transactions with the sanctioned entities to be wound down during a specified period.

The action is part of the Trump administration’s broader campaign to increase economic pressure on Tehran, as the war with Iran continues to affect energy markets and push prices higher globally.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said last month that Washington would pursue an “economic onslaught” against Iran’s financial connections around the world, with the aim of pushing Tehran back to negotiations.

The United States last week also moved to restrict Banque Misr’s branches in the United Arab Emirates from accessing U.S. dollar transactions over their dealings with Iran.

Bessent told Reuters on Sunday that the Treasury Department was likely to introduce new secondary sanctions every week, initially focusing on banks, as Washington seeks to further restrict Iran’s access to the international financial system.
