Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk on a season long loan, with the deal including an option to make the transfer permanent.
The agreement was completed after late negotiations between the two Premier League clubs, with personal terms also understood to have been settled. Tottenham will pay a loan fee for the 25 year old and take responsibility for his wages during the temporary spell.
The deal includes a £75 million buy option, but Tottenham are not obligated to activate the clause at the end of the season. This gives the club the opportunity to assess Mudryk’s performances before deciding whether to make his move permanent.
Mudryk’s arrival will reunite him with Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi, who previously worked with the winger at Shakhtar Donetsk. De Zerbi is understood to have played an important role in the move, having already seen Mudryk’s qualities during their time together in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian joined Chelsea from Shakhtar in January 2023 in a deal that could eventually reach around £89 million. However, his time at Stamford Bridge has been disrupted by inconsistent form, injuries and limited opportunities to establish himself as a regular starter.
Mudryk has not played a competitive match for Chelsea since November 2024 following a suspension that kept him away from football for an extended period. He was cleared to return to competitive action earlier this year and is now seeking regular first team football to rebuild his career.
Tottenham believe the winger can provide greater pace, direct running and attacking penetration on the left side. His ability to operate in wide areas and attack defenders could add another dimension to De Zerbi’s attacking options.
For Mudryk, the move represents an opportunity to revive his career in the Premier League under a manager who already understands his game. De Zerbi’s previous relationship with the player could also help him regain confidence after a difficult period.
Chelsea, meanwhile, will hope the loan move allows Mudryk to regain his best form while remaining under contract with the club. The £75 million purchase option gives Chelsea the possibility of securing a substantial transfer fee if Tottenham decide to sign him permanently.
The transfer is another major move in Tottenham’s busy summer rebuild under De Zerbi as the club continues to reshape its squad and improve its attacking options.
Mudryk is expected to complete his medical and final registration formalities before the move is officially confirmed.
