Lagos Golf Experience Attracts 180 Golfers, Champions Leadership and Inclusion

More than 180 golfers participated in the just-concluded Leadership Cup of The Lagos Golf Experience, an initiative organised by the Lagos State Golf Association to promote golf as a sport, leadership platform and avenue for networking and social impact.

Held at the golf section of Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos, the event brought together golfers, business leaders, government officials and professionals from different sectors.

One of the major highlights was the Leadership Golf Clinic, which introduced 20 prominent leaders to the game. Participants included permanent secretaries in the Lagos State Government, as well as senior executives from the financial services and capital market sectors.

The official opening ceremony featured a ceremonial leadership tee-off performed by Princess Damilola Sunayon, who represented the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat.

She was joined by the Group Managing Director of Abuja Investment Company Limited, Maureen Tamuno, who showed her support for greater female participation in golf by presenting a special golf accessories prize to the best-performing golfer in the Queens of the Greens category.

The prize presentation and gala dinner later attracted dignitaries from the corporate, political, social and sporting communities, adding to the significance of an event designed to bring different sections of society together through golf.

The Lagos Golf Experience was conceived as a flagship initiative to unveil the vision and priorities of the new executive committee of the Lagos State Golf Association.

A major objective of the association is to expand participation in golf, particularly among women aged 18 and above, as well as children and young people. The association believes the sport can provide not only physical and competitive benefits but also opportunities for networking, personal development and leadership growth.

The Leadership Golf Clinic was therefore designed to take golf beyond its traditional audience by introducing influential leaders and professionals to the sport while creating opportunities for interaction and relationship building.

Through programmes such as The Lagos Golf Experience, the Leadership Golf Clinic and Queens of the Greens, the Lagos State Golf Association is seeking to position golf as more than a competitive sport, using it as a vehicle for leadership development, inclusion, mentorship, networking and community building.

The Lagos State Golf Association is chaired by Deji Johnson, son of the late former Lagos State Governor, Brigadier Mobolaji Johnson.

Serving as vice-chairman is Kemi Olowoyo-Otegbade, a seasoned public relations and human resources practitioner.

The association’s latest initiative underscores its broader ambition to make golf more accessible and relevant to a wider section of society while creating pathways for new players, particularly women and young people, to discover and embrace the sport.
