U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered American flags to be flown at half-staff across the United States and at U.S. diplomatic and military facilities abroad in honor of country music icon Dolly Parton.
The presidential proclamation, issued on August 25, directs that the U.S. flag remain at half-staff until sunset on September 1, 2026, as a mark of respect for Parton. The order covers the White House, public buildings and grounds, military posts, naval stations and vessels, as well as U.S. embassies, consulates and other diplomatic facilities overseas.
The White House described the measure as a tribute to Parton’s life and legacy following her death at the age of 80. The decision places the legendary singer and songwriter among a relatively small group of private citizens who have received a nationwide presidential flag tribute.
