The Sokoto State Government has approved N1.759 billion for the procurement of 1,000 Bajaj motorcycles to strengthen security operations and support the fight against banditry across the state.
The approval was reached during the sixth regular meeting of the Sokoto State Executive Council for 2026, chaired by Deputy Governor Idris Muhammad Gobir.
According to the state government, the motorcycles will be distributed to security agencies to improve the mobility and operational effectiveness of personnel, particularly in difficult terrains and communities affected by bandit attacks.
The procurement is also expected to complement the 62 armoured vehicles recently acquired by the state government at a cost of N27 billion and distributed to security agencies.
The government said the latest intervention forms part of its broader efforts to provide security agencies with the logistics required to tackle banditry and other criminal activities more effectively.
The council also approved funding for several education, healthcare, water and vocational training projects as part of efforts to improve infrastructure and human development across the state.
