Former Jigawa State Governor, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, and incumbent Governor Umar Namadi have appeared together at a wedding ceremony in Dutse, in a development that has renewed speculation about reconciliation within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The two prominent APC leaders had been at the centre of reported political differences involving their respective supporters for more than two years, with the disagreement generating tensions within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Badaru and Namadi, however, put their differences aside on Monday, August 10, when they attended the wedding ceremony of Usman Aminu Usman, son of Jigawa State Deputy Governor, Aminu Usman.
Governor Namadi served as the bride’s guardian and formally gave Khadija Tasi’u Ishaq in marriage to Usman, while former Governor Badaru represented the groom at the ceremony.
Their public appearance together is significant, particularly against the backdrop of recent political disagreements between supporters of the two camps.
The division has reportedly affected several politicians associated with the former governor, with some defecting to opposition parties while others failed to secure APC tickets during recent party primaries.
However, Badaru and Namadi themselves have largely avoided direct public confrontation despite the political differences surrounding their supporters.
The wedding appearance has therefore triggered fresh discussions over whether the two leaders are moving towards genuine reconciliation ahead of the 2027 elections.
For APC stakeholders, improved cooperation between Badaru and Namadi could strengthen the party’s internal unity and consolidate its political structure in Jigawa State.
It remains unclear, however, whether the meeting represents the beginning of a lasting political rapprochement or was simply an expression of respect at a family occasion.
As political activities ahead of 2027 intensify, attention will now focus on whether the renewed public appearance translates into closer political cooperation between the two camps.
