Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has pledged up to 300 hectares of land to facilitate the establishment of the newly approved Nigerian Army 10 Division, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening security and enhancing military operations across Adamawa, Taraba and the wider North East region.
Governor Fintiri made the commitment on Thursday while receiving a high powered delegation from the Nigerian Army Headquarters at the Government House, Yola. The delegation, led by Major General Bassy O. Ime, was in the state on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to assess suitable locations for the deployment of troops and the establishment of military formations under the new division.
The governor described the creation of the Army 10 Division as a strategic intervention approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthen national security and improve military operations in Adamawa, Taraba and neighbouring states facing emerging security challenges.

He noted that the new division would significantly enhance the Nigerian Army’s operational effectiveness by improving troop deployment, strengthening rapid response to security threats and providing greater protection for lives and property, particularly in border communities.
Governor Fintiri stressed that Adamawa’s international boundary with the Republic of Cameroon makes it imperative to reinforce military presence in vulnerable areas to combat cross border crimes, insurgency and other security threats.

To ensure the immediate commencement of the project, the governor assured the Army that the state government would complete all land allocation processes, including the issuance of the required legal documents and Certificates of Occupancy, within two weeks.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining a strong partnership with the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies in sustaining peace and creating an enabling environment for economic growth and development.
Governor Fintiri also urged the Nigerian Army to intensify operations against criminal elements and work towards ensuring lasting peace not only in Adamawa and Taraba States but also in Gombe and other parts of the North East.
Earlier, leader of the delegation, Major General Bassy O. Ime, explained that the assessment team was constituted by the Nigerian Army Headquarters following President Tinubu’s approval for the establishment of the new division.
According to him, the team is mandated to identify suitable locations for the immediate deployment of troops and the establishment of operational bases that will serve the new military formation.
He stated that the Army 10 Division is expected to improve troop mobility, strengthen operational coordination, reinforce border security and increase the military’s capacity to respond swiftly to emerging threats across the region.
Major General Ime disclosed that the team would inspect proposed locations in Yola, Ganye, Gombi, Mubi and Madagali Local Government Areas to determine the most suitable sites for permanent and temporary military formations capable of supporting operations in vulnerable border communities.
He appealed to the Adamawa State Government to provide temporary land for the immediate take off of the division while permanent barracks, training grounds, operational facilities and other supporting infrastructure are developed.
The Army officer also requested the deployment of officials from the Adamawa State Survey Department to work with Nigerian Army survey teams in mapping, demarcating and processing all legal documentation relating to the proposed sites.
The visit further underscores the growing collaboration between the Adamawa State Government and the Nigerian Army in strengthening the region’s security architecture, improving border protection and promoting lasting peace and stability across the North East.
