The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has called on local and international investors to shift greater attention to Abuja’s rapidly developing satellite towns, describing them as the next frontier for economic expansion, real estate development and industrial growth.
The minister said the ongoing transformation of the Federal Capital Territory is no longer limited to the city centre, as major infrastructure projects are being extended to satellite communities to unlock fresh investment opportunities and promote balanced urban development.
According to him, the FCT Administration is investing heavily in road construction, water supply, transportation networks, healthcare facilities and educational infrastructure to make satellite towns more attractive for businesses and residents. He noted that improved infrastructure would reduce development costs, stimulate private sector investment and encourage the establishment of new commercial and industrial ventures.
Wike emphasized that the administration’s vision is to ease development pressure on the city centre by creating thriving economic hubs across the territory. He explained that expanding development into satellite towns would improve housing availability, enhance mobility and create more opportunities for employment and enterprise development.
He identified sectors such as real estate, agriculture, healthcare, tourism, renewable energy, technology, education, transportation and urban infrastructure as areas with enormous investment potential. He urged investors to take advantage of government efforts to provide the necessary infrastructure and policy support needed for sustainable business growth.
The minister also reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to maintaining a transparent and investor-friendly business environment, stressing that genuine investors would continue to receive government support. At the same time, he warned that authorities would not tolerate fraudulent land allocations, illegal developments or activities capable of undermining investor confidence and the Abuja Master Plan.
He noted that strategic infrastructure development remains central to attracting long-term investments and improving the competitiveness of the Federal Capital Territory. Roads linking satellite communities, expanded utility services and improved public facilities are expected to encourage businesses to establish operations outside the city centre while improving living standards for residents.
Industry stakeholders believe the growing focus on satellite towns could accelerate economic diversification within the FCT by opening new corridors for residential, commercial and industrial development. They also noted that improved infrastructure would enhance property values, support small and medium-sized enterprises and strengthen economic activities across surrounding communities.
The renewed investment drive forms part of broader efforts to position Abuja as one of Africa’s leading investment destinations. By encouraging development beyond the city centre, the administration aims to create a more inclusive and sustainable pattern of urban growth capable of supporting the territory’s rapidly increasing population and expanding economy.
As infrastructure projects continue to spread across the Federal Capital Territory, investors are expected to find increasing opportunities in housing, manufacturing, logistics, commercial services and other high-growth sectors within Abuja’s satellite towns. Government officials expressed confidence that continued collaboration with the private sector will accelerate development, generate employment and strengthen the FCT’s contribution to Nigeria’s economic growth.
