Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has achieved a major milestone in its operations, announcing that it has successfully exported more than 6,000 liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes since the company commenced production, generating approximately $150 billion in revenue over the years.
The achievement underscores NLNG’s significant contribution to Nigeria’s economy, particularly in foreign exchange earnings, government revenue generation, and the development of the country’s natural gas industry. The company has remained one of Nigeria’s leading exporters, supplying LNG to major international markets across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
Speaking on the milestone, the company’s management described the accomplishment as a reflection of decades of operational excellence, strategic partnerships, and sustained investments in Nigeria’s gas sector. According to NLNG, the revenue generated has benefited shareholders, including the Federal Government, while also supporting infrastructure development, local content growth, and employment opportunities within the country.
Since its establishment, NLNG has played a pivotal role in reducing gas flaring by harnessing Nigeria’s abundant natural gas resources for commercial use. The company has transformed what was once considered a wasted resource into a major source of national income and global energy supply.
Industry analysts say the company’s consistent export performance has strengthened Nigeria’s position in the global LNG market despite increasing competition from other gas-producing nations. They noted that growing demand for cleaner energy sources has continued to create opportunities for LNG producers, positioning Nigeria to expand its market share if investment in gas infrastructure is sustained.
The milestone comes as NLNG advances work on its Train 7 project, an expansion expected to significantly increase the company’s production capacity. Upon completion, the project is projected to boost Nigeria’s LNG output, create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, and enhance the country’s ability to meet rising global demand for natural gas.
Energy experts have also highlighted the importance of maintaining a stable investment climate, improving gas supply to processing facilities, and strengthening security around critical energy infrastructure to ensure continued growth in the sector.
As the global energy transition gathers pace, NLNG is expected to remain a strategic player in Nigeria’s efforts to diversify its economy, increase non-oil export earnings, and maximize the value of its vast natural gas reserve
