Senator Ahmad Lawan, representing Yobe North Senatorial District, has launched a second chance education initiative targeting 1,178 students across the district in a move to tackle the persistent challenge of out-of-school children.

The programme, known as the Foundation Education Development Initiative (EEDI), was flagged off in Nguru and is designed to provide remedial education support for vulnerable students and their families.

Speaking at the launch on Monday, Lawan said the first phase of the initiative would sponsor 1,178 students to complete their education across 17 secondary schools in Nguru Local Government Area.

He described the intervention as a direct response to decades of educational neglect in parts of the state, stressing that it reflects both personal commitment and collective responsibility to secure a better future for young people.

“This initiative is aimed at giving our young ones a second chance at a brighter and more assured future, while also supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC administration,” Lawan stated.

The former Senate President also commended the Yobe State Government for its continued investment in education, noting that the programme would complement ongoing efforts to improve access to schooling.

Under the scheme, beneficiaries will have their school fees fully covered, alongside provision of uniforms, shoes and essential learning materials.

Lawan added that the initiative would be expanded to other local government areas within the Yobe North Senatorial District in subsequent phases.

He further praised the implementation committee, led by Comrade Bashir Sharif Tahir Nguru, for ensuring effective coordination of the programme.
