Moniepoint has announced that it has disbursed more than $700 million in loans to businesses and individuals, with women accounting for 36 per cent of the total credit extended through its lending platform, highlighting the company’s growing role in expanding financial inclusion across Nigeria.

The financial technology company said the milestone reflects increasing demand for accessible digital credit, particularly among micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), which continue to rely on alternative financing to support business expansion and day-to-day operations.

According to the company, the significant share of loans accessed by women demonstrates its commitment to promoting inclusive finance and reducing barriers that have historically limited women’s access to formal credit. It noted that improved access to financing enables female entrepreneurs to invest in their businesses, create jobs and contribute more effectively to economic growth.

Industry experts have consistently identified limited access to finance as one of the biggest challenges facing small businesses in Nigeria. Traditional lending institutions often require collateral and lengthy approval processes, making digital lending platforms increasingly attractive to entrepreneurs seeking quick and convenient financing.

Moniepoint said it continues to leverage technology and data-driven credit assessment models to provide faster loan approvals while maintaining responsible lending practices. The company believes digital financial services can help bridge Nigeria’s financing gap and support the growth of underserved businesses across various sectors of the economy.

Analysts say the increasing adoption of fintech lending solutions is transforming Nigeria’s financial landscape by expanding access to credit for individuals and businesses previously excluded from conventional banking services. They also note that greater financial inclusion is essential for boosting entrepreneurship, increasing productivity and stimulating economic development.

The company’s lending performance comes amid sustained growth in Nigeria’s digital payments and financial technology sector, where innovation continues to reshape how businesses and consumers access banking and financial services. Continued investment in digital infrastructure and financial inclusion initiatives is expected to further accelerate the sector’s growth.

As demand for accessible financing continues to rise, Moniepoint’s expanding loan portfolio underscores the growing importance of fintech companies in supporting small businesses, empowering women entrepreneurs and driving inclusive economic development across Nigeria.
