Qatar Welcomes Belgian and Dutch Bans on Imports From Israeli Settlements

Qatar has welcomed decisions by Belgium and the Netherlands to ban imports of goods produced in Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, describing the measures as a step toward upholding international law.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said the restrictions reflect growing international opposition to Israeli settlement activity, which much of the international community considers illegal under international law. Doha called on other countries to adopt similar measures and reaffirm their commitment to a rules based international order.

Belgian and Dutch authorities announced the import bans as part of efforts to ensure compliance with international legal obligations and distinguish between goods produced within Israel’s internationally recognised borders and those originating from settlements in the occupied territories.

Israel has repeatedly rejected international criticism of its settlement policy, arguing that the status of the territories should be resolved through direct negotiations with the Palestinians. Successive Israeli governments have opposed trade restrictions targeting settlement products.

The latest developments come amid heightened international scrutiny of the Israeli Palestinian conflict and increasing diplomatic pressure over the expansion of settlements in the occupied West Bank. Several European countries have taken steps in recent years to tighten regulations on trade involving settlement goods.

Qatar reiterated its support for a negotiated two state solution based on international law and urged renewed diplomatic efforts to end the conflict and achieve lasting peace in the region.
