President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the construction of an airstrip on the Mambilla Plateau in Taraba State, marking a significant step toward improving air connectivity and unlocking the region’s economic and tourism potential.
According to the announcement, a team of engineers and contractors has already visited the proposed project site to conduct preliminary assessments ahead of the commencement of construction, which is expected to begin in the coming weeks.
The project was facilitated through the efforts of Alhaji Abdulrahman Usman Leme in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser, led by Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
When completed, the Mambilla Plateau airstrip is expected to improve access to one of Nigeria’s most scenic highland regions, boost tourism, attract investment, create employment opportunities, and enhance the movement of people and goods.
The development is also expected to strengthen Taraba State’s aviation infrastructure, complementing existing air facilities in Jalingo and Kashimbila while supporting broader economic growth across the state.
Residents and stakeholders have welcomed the project, expressing optimism that it will accelerate development and open new opportunities for businesses and local communities across the Mambilla Plateau.
