The Kwara State Government has ordered the immediate demolition of a dilapidated two storey building in the Oke Suna area of Ilorin East Local Government Area after declaring the structure unsafe and a threat to lives and property.

According to a report by The Guardian, the building has also been sealed by the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) following complaints from residents over fears that it could collapse at any time.

KWEPA said the enforcement action followed reports from members of the community, prompting an immediate inspection of the property. During the visit, residents disclosed that the building owner had been repeatedly warned about the deteriorating condition of the structure but allegedly failed to carry out the necessary repairs.

Reacting to the findings, the General Manager of KWEPA, Jide Aina, described the building as a serious public safety risk and directed the owner to begin its immediate demolition.

He warned that the state government would demolish the structure if the owner failed to comply with the directive, stressing that the action was necessary to protect lives and property from a potential disaster.

Aina reaffirmed the government’s commitment to proactive environmental enforcement and urged residents to continue reporting abandoned buildings, distressed structures and other environmental hazards to enable prompt intervention.
