Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the immediate rehabilitation of the Olaiya Bridge in Osogbo ahead of the inauguration of the newly completed Okefia Flyover, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to maintaining existing infrastructure while delivering new projects.

The governor issued the directive during an inspection of the bridge, where he expressed concern over its deteriorating condition. According to a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke instructed the Ministry of Works to carry out a comprehensive assessment and begin repairs without delay.

He also ordered the ministry to clean the bridge, fix identified defects and ensure it complements the newly constructed Okefia and Lameco flyover bridges before the commissioning ceremony.

“The Ministry of Works should immediately act on this Olaiya Bridge. Let us clean it up. It is a state asset. We must ensure its proper maintenance. This should be done before we commission the Okefia Bridge,” the governor said.

Adeleke emphasized that his administration remains committed to preserving public assets while completing inherited projects, stressing that governance is a continuous process.

“I believe government is a continuum. All inherited projects are being completed by our government, and all completed projects by previous administrations must be appropriately maintained,” he added.

The Olaiya Bridge is one of Osogbo’s key transport links, connecting several parts of the state capital and serving thousands of motorists and commuters daily. Its rehabilitation is expected to improve safety and enhance traffic flow ahead of the inauguration of the Okefia Flyover, one of the state’s flagship infrastructure projects.

The Adeleke administration has continued to prioritize road and bridge development across Osun State, saying the projects are aimed at improving connectivity, easing congestion and stimulating economic activities.
