The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved contracts worth N2.748 billion for the construction of a perimeter fence, gate and gatehouse at Government Secondary School, Fufore, and the construction of 108 semi detached houses in Madagali Local Government Area as part of efforts to improve security and support the resettlement of displaced communities.
According to a report by The Guardian, the approvals were granted during the 11th Executive Council meeting of 2026, chaired by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Iliya James, popularly known as Leader Leneke, said the council approved the projects to enhance security in public schools and strengthen the state’s humanitarian and reconstruction efforts.
Leneke disclosed that the Executive Council approved a N781.3 million contract for the construction of a perimeter fence, gate and gatehouse at Government Secondary School, Fufore.
He explained that the school, one of Adamawa State’s leading public secondary schools, currently lacks adequate perimeter security, exposing students, teachers and other staff to security risks.
According to him, the project will provide a safer and more secure learning environment for both students and staff.
The commissioner also announced the approval of a N1.967 billion contract for the construction of 108 semi detached houses in Madagali Local Government Area.
He said the housing project forms part of the state’s Return to Ancestral Home Pathway, a home grown durable solutions initiative aimed at facilitating the safe return and resettlement of people displaced by insurgency.
Leneke explained that the project, presented by the Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Reintegration and Humanitarian Services, will be executed by 39 contractors across 54 lots to ensure quality delivery, effective supervision and timely completion.
He added that the housing scheme reflects the Fintiri administration’s commitment to restoring normalcy in communities affected by years of insurgency, particularly in the northern part of Adamawa State.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to people centred development, Leneke said the administration would continue investing in education, infrastructure and humanitarian interventions to improve security, strengthen public infrastructure and enhance the welfare of residents across the state.
