The Nigerian Navy, on Wednesday, commissioned a solar powered borehole for residents of Muye Community, Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State.

The project, a 35,000 litre overhead water storage tank and a water reticulation system, was part of efforts to strengthen civil military relations and improve access to clean water.

The project was facilitated by the Commandant of the Nigerian Naval College, Rear Admiral Mohammed Adamu Muye, under the Chief of the Naval Staff’s Special Intervention Quick Impact Project initiative.

According to Daily Trust, the senior military officer said the project was designed to provide sustainable access to potable water for residents while complementing government efforts in community development.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Rear Admiral Muye described the project as more than the delivery of physical infrastructure, saying it represented hope, dignity and improved opportunities for the people.

He said the initiative aligns with the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to supporting national development through meaningful investments in communities.

“The project represents the commissioning of hope, dignity and opportunity. Sustainable security requires not only military capability but also meaningful investment in the welfare and well being of our people,” he said.

According to him, the Chief of the Naval Staff introduced the Special Intervention Quick Impact Project in 2024 to provide senior naval officers with opportunities to execute projects that address critical social needs in their communities while strengthening civil military cooperation.

He noted that access to clean and safe drinking water remains essential for healthy living, public health, agriculture, commerce and education, adding that many communities across the country still face challenges in accessing potable water.
