Iran launched a new wave of missile and drone attacks targeting military and energy infrastructure across the Gulf on Tuesday after the United States carried out a fourth consecutive night of large scale strikes against Iranian military facilities, marking another major escalation in the conflict between Washington and Tehran.

According to Reuters, Iranian forces struck several targets in the Gulf region, including military installations and commercial shipping linked to U.S. allies, as Tehran vowed to respond to what it described as continued American aggression. Air defence systems were activated across several Gulf states, while authorities assessed damage and monitored the evolving security situation.

The latest retaliation followed overnight U.S. air and missile strikes on dozens of Iranian military targets, including missile launch sites, air defence systems, naval facilities and command centres. The U.S. Central Command said the operation was aimed at degrading Iran’s military capabilities and preventing further attacks on international shipping and American forces stationed in the Middle East.

Iranian state media reported explosions near the southern port city of Bandar Abbas, while military officials said the country had launched retaliatory strikes under its right to self defence. Iranian authorities accused the United States of violating international law and warned that further military action would be met with additional retaliation.

The renewed hostilities have intensified concerns over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one fifth of the world’s seaborne oil passes. Maritime security agencies reported continued disruptions to commercial shipping, with several tanker operators delaying or rerouting voyages due to the heightened risk of missile attacks and military activity in the Gulf.

International oil markets reacted to the latest developments, with crude prices rising amid fears that prolonged fighting could disrupt global energy supplies. Aviation authorities also maintained restrictions on flights through parts of Gulf airspace as airlines continued to reroute aircraft to avoid potential conflict zones.

Governments across Europe, Asia and the Middle East renewed calls for restraint, warning that continued military exchanges risk triggering a broader regional conflict. Diplomatic efforts to de escalate the crisis remain under way, although there has been no indication of an immediate breakthrough as both Washington and Tehran maintain hardline positions.

Military analysts say the exchange of strikes represents one of the most serious confrontations between the United States and Iran in recent years, raising concerns over the security of critical energy infrastructure, international shipping lanes and regional stability.
