Suspected cultists have allegedly killed a man identified as Taiwo Saheed and severed his head in the Atan area of Ogun State, with footage of the incident circulating on social media.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, October 15, 2026, in Igbo Olomi, Atan-Ota, amid concerns over cult-related violence in parts of the state.
According to a report by PUNCH, eyewitness accounts and footage of the incident suggested that the attack may have been carried out by suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity in an alleged reprisal attack.
The video reportedly showed the victim lying in a pool of blood while one of the attackers repeatedly struck him with what appeared to be a machete before severing his head. Other individuals at the scene were reportedly heard cheering during the attack.
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the incident and said investigations are being intensified to identify and arrest those responsible.
The command’s spokesperson, Babaseyi Oluseyi, said the police were working to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure that the perpetrators were brought to justice.
He said the command was intensifying investigations into the murder of Saheed, which occurred in Igbo Olomi, Atan-Ota, on October 15.
According to the police spokesperson, proactive efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspects, determine the circumstances of the incident and ensure justice for the deceased.
The police have not publicly identified any suspects in connection with the killing in the report, and no arrest was confirmed at the time of publication.
The incident has renewed concerns about cult-related violence and the safety of residents in communities across Ogun State.
Atan and other parts of the state have previously witnessed incidents involving suspected cult groups, including attacks allegedly linked to rivalries between confraternities.
In April 2026, the Ogun State Police Command reportedly arrested four suspected cultists over alleged assault, armed robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm and the theft of an iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The suspects were identified as Samson John, 25, Olufowora Michael, 28, Odeh Samuel Ejeh, 25, and Olajide Jeremiah, 28. Their arrest followed a complaint lodged at a police station on April 16.
The latest killing highlights continuing security concerns surrounding suspected cult activities and retaliatory attacks.
The police are expected to continue investigations to establish the motive for the killing and identify everyone involved. The allegations against any suspects will be subject to due process under the law.
