The convener of Arewa Think Tank, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, has described President Bola Tinubu’s decision to hold the flag-off of his 2027 presidential campaign in Kaduna State as significant for the state and Northern Nigeria.
According to Alabi Abdul of Blueprint Newspapers, Yakubu commended Tinubu for selecting Kaduna as the venue for the campaign event scheduled for October 24, 2026. He also praised Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for preparations ahead of the gathering.
In a statement reported by Blueprint, Yakubu said Kaduna’s historical importance, strategic location, cultural diversity and political prominence made it a notable venue for an event of national significance.
He argued that the campaign flag-off could create opportunities for political engagement and discussions about Nigeria’s future. He also stressed the importance of adequate planning and cooperation among government officials, security agencies, political stakeholders and other relevant bodies to ensure the event proceeds peacefully.
Yakubu urged political actors and their supporters to demonstrate tolerance, respect opposing views and avoid actions that could threaten public order during the campaign period.
Kaduna’s selection as the venue places the state at the centre of the All Progressives Congress’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election. The event is also an opportunity for political leaders to communicate their priorities and engage with citizens.
However, the significance of a campaign rally extends beyond attendance and political symbolism. Voters will also assess candidates and parties based on their records, policies and responses to concerns such as insecurity, unemployment, infrastructure and the cost of living.
The campaign’s broader impact will therefore depend on whether political engagement translates into meaningful discussion of issues affecting Nigerians.
